AAC Nitrosorb® NOxBox

Nitrosorb® NOx Filter Systems

AAC Nitrosorb® NOxBox

The AAC Nitrosorb® NOxBox is an air filtration systemspecifically designed to remove nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from intake air inprojects with mechanical ventilation and heat recovery units in residential, student accommodation and hotel applications. It uses activated carbon filter technology to absorb NO2.

MEETING CURRENT LEGISLATION

The NOxBox is intended to help meet indoor air qualityregulations in the European Union. Specifically, it addresses Directive 2008/50/ECwhich limits indoor NO2 levels to 40μg/m3. This legislation impacts planning, development and HVAC design for new and retrofit residential, educational, andcommercial buildings.

To comply with this legislation, developers must include NOxfiltration in their design and areas that exceed 4Oug/m3 are designated as AirQuality Management Areas by local authorities.

ABOUT

AAC Nitrosorb® NOxBox

AAC NITROSORB® NOXBOX

AAC Eurovent has been a key player in providing sustainableindoor air NO2 & NOx mitigation solutions for over a decade.

The AAC Nitrosorb NOxBox uses carbon filter technology todeliver a high efficiency and sustainable range of standard and customised NOxfilter units.

Our NOxBox solution is suitable for indoor air projects innew build and retrofit schemes and is designed for use with all types of MVHRs.

Replacing the NOx Filter Cells

While great care has been taken to ensure the AAC Nitrosorb®Filter System has been designed for longevity, the activated carbon filtercells in the NOxBox need replacing periodically. Our NOxBox filter will deliverbetween 2-5 years of high-level air filtration performance.

The lifespan of the filters depends on the concentration ofNOx in the intake air, caused by the environment and application, and as thecarbon media becomes saturated with NOx, its effectiveness is reduced. Higheroutdoor NO2 levels will require more frequent replacements.

The replacement NOxBox filter cells utilise the samehigh-grade activated carbon media, this maintains the high NOx removalefficiency and performance of the filtration system.

Accessing the NOxBox Filter Cells

The NOxBox is designed to make checking and replacing thefilter cells straightforward. It features a removable inspection panel on theunit to enable easy access to the carbon filter cells.

The orientation of the filter cells depends on whether theNOxBox is configured for horizontal or vertical airflow. In either orientation, the cells simply slide out for replacement. There is no need to disconnect anyducting, enabling quick and simple replacement of the cells, minimisingmaintenance time and costs.

Maintaining the NOxBox

Maintaining the NOxBox involves periodically inspecting andreplacing the filter cells when saturated. We recommend inspecting thecondition of the particulate filters and carbonfilter cells through the access panel on a regular basis every 6 months. This can help identify when the cellsneed replacement.replacing.

Applications for NOx Filters

NOxBox units are ideal for schools, hospitals, care homes, residential apartments and other residentialsettings that require indoor air filtration. They are also frequently used inhotels, and student accommodation andcommercial offices that need where there isa requirement to comply with indoor air quality regulations.

Any newbuild project with mechanical ventilation that needsto meet the European Union indoor NO2 concentration limits can benefit from theNOxBox.

Retrofit projects in urban areas are prime applications, asoutdoor NO2 levels often exceed limits in cities. The NOxBox provides aneffective filtration solution without requiring major HVAC modifications. Thewide flow rate range of the NOxBox makes it suitable for both small scaleresidential settings as well as large commercial and industrial spaces.

FAQs

What types of homescan use the NOxBox?

The AAC Nitrosorb NOxBox is suitable for any residentialsetting that has a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) systemalready installed or planned. Specific types of homes and residential buildingsthat can benefit from adding a NOxBox include:

●     Single family houses - Both existing and newlyconstructed houses can integrate a NOxBox with the MVHR ducting to filterincoming air.

●     Apartments & condominiums - The NOxBox is compactand configurable to work within the tight spaces and ventilation constraints ofmulti-family apartment buildings.

●     Care homes & assisted living facilities - Theseresidential care settings must meet stringent indoor air quality standards thatthe NOxBox can help achieve.

●     Student housing & dormitories - Campus housing withcentralised MVHR systems can use a NOxBox to reduce outdoor pollution for betterstudent health.

●     Social housing - For council houses, housingassociations, and community-oriented residential projects.

The NOxBox is suitable for any home, residentialdevelopment, or housing complex that needs to meet EU regulations on indoor NO2levels. Both new build and retrofit applications can implement a NOxBoxsolution with proper HVAC integration.

How can I tell if Ineed a NOxBox for my home?

Check your NO2 levels through environmental agencies or airquality monitoring networks to see if they consistently exceed 40μg/m3, the EUlimit for nitrogen dioxide. If levels are high in your area, adding a NOxBox toyour home's mechanical ventilation system will filter polluted air to meetindoor standards. For a definitive assessment of whether your specific homerequires a NOxBox, contact the experts at AAC Eurovent to assess your indoorNO2 levels and advise if their filtration solution is recommended. Installing aNOxBox is suggested for any residential setting where indoor or outdoor NO2exceeds EU regulations to mitigate air pollution.
